Oh hello! You find this very important press person sat at her kitchen table being very important with a cup of tea and a PRESS PACK from @shopivyjoan !!! I sat staring at it for a while- mainly to cherish this warm glow of surely this makes me a ground breaking journalist now but also because it was so beautifully packaged. I am now wrestling with the beautiful brochure - I need it all!! I especially need every single confit pot and earthenware vessel that graces these pages. I’ll buy the lot!! Oh and your gorgeous new winter (Hayley calls it Hiver - I KNEW it sounded fancy!!) candle scent. Oh, but I am just a lowly award winning ground breaking journalist, I barely earn a penny, I do it for the truth. Hmm, actually I am not sure I want to be a roving reporter any more. I might just be a nice hip PR person who pops into London Town looking really natty and drinking cool coffees. Ahh Autumn. You circle our trees with your come hither hiver eyes (it sounds better in French than cold, stark English “winter”). You wrap your coldening, goldening grip around our leaves and drop them carelessly to the ground (actually you have created a beautiful circle of leaves around the walnut tree but again, it’s not as dramatic). No care for the family that have picnicked merrily under it’s shading branches all summer (twice- it was freezing and frankly a bit muddy). No heed has been paid to the swing of dreams that allows one to fly under a canopy of delights, giving free rein to the imagination to soar as high as the feet in the sky. Mud shall rein supreme for the next few months on this trapeze of derring do and bottoms will remain off the seat (ok..just mine…the children don’t seem to care about the mud). You are gently and beautifully stealing our summer colours (I have no idea- we seemed to be inside for most of the summer) and given us an Autumn to enjoy. Leaves to rustle and tussle, conkers to crack and clatter and squirrels to shout at - they started it!! They won’t stop shouting!! I try to sing to them a la Snow White but they bare their teeth and shout. These squirrels would not even get a call up to a Snow White remake casting, these beasts (they even tried to eat the rotten onions that I still haven’t taken down to the composter) are the baddies. Think “When The Chipmunks Went Wrong” and that is their castability. The pears may be gone but the roses battle on valiantly with nary a nod or a wink to the month. Ahh yes…the October roses…nestled in amongst the September rosehips… I am not even going to question this craziness but it does at least distract from the pure and simple no getting away from it fact that the lawn needs a ruddy good mow. Given that the mushrooms, ants and slugs have spent more time on this lawn than I have this summer, I feel a little put out at having to mow for them. Although I suppose it may discourage the blimming squirrels from digging massive holes in the lawn to bury MY poor stolen walnuts. It really is a case of adding insult to injury - particularly as they then don’t actually bury them in the holes so I can’t retrieve them but do manage to stumble down the holes as I waft by. I have no idea why boats and windmills are so appealing but I absolutely love them. Is it the sense of romantic escape? Milled flour? I just don’t know but I love looking at both. There is a wonderful windmill in Norfolk that my friends and I would rent for a long weekend (it has bunk rooms and middle aged women shouldn’t stay in bunk beds for more than three nights- it’s desperately unseemly (well it is after a night of wine and dancing to Britney Spears). I adore the romance of the windmill, the age and the history of the building, the round rooms, the room at the very top that everyone is terrified to go into because it just feels a bit scary but is filled with tempting old books and sagging freying sofas that beg you to sit down but something stops you and you get goosebumps and leg it downstairs to join your poorly pals who are attempting to recover from Britneyfest. I love the sails and the wide wooden floorboards, I even love the almost pointless storage heaters and scratchy blankets. I almost love the freezing cold outer skin wall showers that require flip flops because the floor is so cold. It must be the romance and the history…and the flour…and it’s really close to Burnham Market so you can burn off Britney with some amazing shopping and delicious food…and magic cocktails that make you ready to hit it Baby one more night. Yup- more apples. But this time it’s a glorious garden applescape. So many apples and yet none of us are yet sick of the sight of apple crumble. I dared to suggest mixing it up and living dangerously with a damson crumble yesterday but was met with folded arms and I would venture tentatively- murderous glances. I backed away, clutching my little yellow basket for support and fled to the garden, I allowed the gentle thud of the fuglies as they part ways with their branches to calm my almost murdered soul, apologised to the apples that had dropped and wouldn’t make the crumble (the smashed up, insect and good grief what made those tooth marks knawed ground kill) and skipped back to the house to give these lucky few a good crumbling. Who would be an apple? What a life. Another day, another applescape… But this time I am remaining in the applescape. I am officially not moving from this rocking chair of comfort until the second cup of tea takes it toll. The light up fairy princess floral headbands arrived, my new bestest friend Jo arrived - not even a phone call of “l think I am in the right place…”. Oh no! Not bronze party package Jo!! She rocked up, she rocked out - she is actually a trained dancer, she was amazing . I showed her a little bit of my old ribbancing with some Lamda term 3 Flamenco tossed in for Spanish eloquence and I think she was pretty impressed. She packed up amazingly quickly… and before we knew it the triple double digits disco was over. Three very happy, partied out almost ten year olds and three relieved time to hit the gin in a very serious fashion mums. That is why I am sat here and not moving!!! A fleeting moment of sunshine and blue sky??? Run my little Baukjen elongated legs, run like the wind!!! Take the shot! Take the shot!! The clouds are coming!! Cover me!!! Army roll!!! Boom! Shot taken. Autumn Cottage captured. I appreciate that I sound very extremely military but the day of the triple double digits disco is upon us. There is no room for error. We will take no prisoners. This will run with frightening precision. My new best friend Jo the children’s DJ of the bronze package, entertainer and trained dancer will arrive at 1430. The Party will commen….hang on! Jo phoned me to check any last minute questions (I love her even more), I gave her the postcode…but forgot to tell her there is little to no signal in the village hall unless you go to the very back of the car park and stand on the flowerbed. Arghhhh!!! …ok, it’s fine, I will send her all our numbers and maybe she will get through on one of our phones if she gets lost…except in attempting to save her number in a frankly major general swoop of army organisation…I deleted it. Good. Excellent. It’s fine, Jo is amazing, she has worked in holiday parks, nothing will stop her entertaining the troo…many many terrifying ten year olds. I have every faith in my comrade and new best friend Jo. Please don’t let me down new best friend - the light up fairy flower crowns haven’t arrived yet. There may be a full scale mutiny.
